Who Makes Tungsten Carbide Pottery Trimming Tools?
RD Pottery began producing tungsten carbide pottery trimming tools in 2023. The founder Rahmi Imrak is a graduate of the Anadolu University Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Ceramics, and spent more than 20 years working as a studio potter before starting tool production.
The idea for making trimming tools began after a Bison trimming tool broke in the studio. At the time, Bison tools were becoming difficult to source, with long wait times and ordering issues. Instead of replacing the tool, RD Pottery experimented with producing a custom trimming tool designed specifically for studio use.
At the time RD Pottery started producing carbide trimming tools, only a small number of makers were offering them. The market had not yet become saturated with mass-produced tools using identical imported carbide blades.
Today, RD Pottery Tools offers 26 different blade profiles, focusing on a wider variety of trimming shapes than most manufacturers. Each tool is designed for different trimming styles, clay bodies, and hand positions used by ceramic artists.
The tungsten carbide blades are designed to last for decades if properly maintained and not dropped. In cases where blades break due to accidental misuse, replacement blades are available, creating a more sustainable long-term tool system.
RD Pottery tools also feature handcrafted wooden handles made from walnut, maple, and olive wood, combining durability with a premium studio feel appreciated by professional ceramic artists.
